Social Media for Social Good: The Red Pump Project and World AIDS Day
Tuesday, December 1, 2009
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of welcoming back Luvvie of The Red Pump Project on The ChatterBox Show to talk about her fabulous cause and World AIDS Day. It seems like only yesterday, that we were just one of the many launch pads Luvvie and Karen used to get this initiative off the ground and they have come so far since this past March!
The Red Pump Project is dedicated to raising awareness of HIV and AIDS in women. We learned on my show that HIV/AIDS kills more women than Breast Cancer and Heart Disease which are two "biggies" for us! This news was staggering...even more staggering that we don't talk about it enough! The Red Pump Project's purpose is to open this dialog by using social media to provide resources for assistance, awareness, and prevention. Back in March, over one hundred bloggers "Rocked the Red Pump" on their blogs as a call to arms to strive to put an end to this preventable deadly disease.
Today is World AIDS Day and while this is a planet-wide epidemic and practically destroys entire underdeveloped countries, we cannot forget that it is also a crisis right here at home. Visit The Red Pump Project and show your support through your comments, nation-wide events and fundraisers, and just by rocking the "Red Pump."
